Artistic Statement
I’ve never been interested in creating perfect images just for the sake of realism. Technique matters to me, but only when it serves something underneath it. Most of my work starts with a certain feeling or tension that stays in my head long enough that I need to put it on paper.
I work mainly with charcoal and graphite because those materials feel direct and honest. They allow me to focus on contrast, texture, expression and atmosphere without adding anything unnecessary. The monochrome aspect is important to me. Removing color often reveals more than adding it. When color does appear in my work, it has a purpose. It marks a shift in emotion, attention or meaning.
Some pieces are rooted in personal experiences, while others come from mythology, symbolism or certain thoughts that are difficult to explain in words. I’m less interested in giving clear answers than in creating an image that stays with someone after they’ve looked at it.
I don’t want the work to feel distant or overconstructed. Even in highly detailed pieces, I try to leave space for emotion, imperfection and interpretation. The technical side of drawing should support the atmosphere of the piece, not overpower it.
At its core, my work is about creating images that feel human. Quiet, confrontational, personal or unresolved — but honest.

Walls Deserve Better
Most walls are unremarkable. Noirvell Art Studio does not believe in art as mere filler for empty spaces.
The goal is to create work that forces the viewer to truly stop and look.
Contrast and Material
Based in a studio in Helmond, The Netherlands, the work is created exclusively using hand-drawn techniques. No digital rendering or AI is used. The focus lies on charcoal and graphite—materials that provide the necessary extremes, from razor-sharp lines to coarse, dark smudges.
Contrast is central to the work. While one piece may be technically detailed, another can be almost abstract. There are no fixed rules regarding subject matter, though themes such as emotion, nature, and taboos frequently recur. Intuition determines when an image feels right and the work is complete.
Quality and Longevity
Quality is the foundation. To guarantee lifelong value, only museum-grade materials are used:
Originals
Drawn on Arches Aquarelle Hot Pressed (300 gsm). This 100% cotton paper is acid-free, fungicide-treated, and meets the highest archival standards.
Medium
Professional-grade materials such as Faber-Castell Pitt charcoal and graphite, finished with high-quality fixatives.
Prints
Reproductions are printed on Hahnemühle German Etching (310 g/m²). This premium fine-art paper is acid- and lignin-free (ISO 9706) and specifically chosen for its deep blacks and detail reproduction.
